Progress Updates - April 2024

As we have been exploring the possibility of expanding our existing school to incorporate a Chesterton Academy High School, we have been providing periodic updates on our progress to those who have expressed interest.

The following updates are what our team shared for the month of March:

Charter Expansion: Bishop Thomas has granted his approval for us to begin the process of expanding the charter of our current school to include grades 9-12.

Feasibility Study: The two big questions we have to answer as we look to start a Chesterton Academy here at St. Michael are:

  1. Are there enough families committed to sending their children to a classical Catholic high school?

  2. Is a new high school financially sustainable?

Board of Directors: We are in the process of identifying and recruiting Members for a Board. The Chesterton School Network (CSN) requires each that school — or prospective school — has a Board. According to CSN guidelines this Board has fiduciary responsibility for school and is responsible for long-term adherence to mission, vision, and operational excellence. The following qualifications are required by CSN for Board Membership: practicing Roman Catholics; required to take an oath of fidelity to the Magisterium each year. Initially, the Board requires a chair, vice chair, secretary, and treasurer to serve as officers.

Core Team: We continue to identify those interested in being part of the Core Team. The Core Team is a group of highly involved and invested volunteers, who are committed to give the very best of their time, talent and resources for the founding and ongoing flourishing of your school. Core Team members commit to praying for the school as we seek to evangelize through education. Some members of the Core Team will be nominated to serve in formal Board roles; others will serve on key committees in support of the Board.
